Biron 2026: trees among the stones

For two days, on 16 and 17 May, the courtyards of Château de Biron welcomed some fifty bonsai from all over France. Maples, Chinese elms, azaleas in flower, wisterias, hawthorns and Scots pines were shown under the arcades and along the terraces, in the light of the Périgord.

Stones to contemplate

For the first time, suiseki accompanied the trees. These stones, many of them from eastern Europe, are never reworked: they are found as they are, and one looks in them for a mountain, a shore, a figure. The stand and the table do the rest.

A jury marking out of thirty

Every tree was marked on style, on display and on a free appreciation. The first prize, a piece created by the Atelier des fac-similés in Montignac, was awarded on the Sunday, along with five other distinctions. Guided tours explained kazari, the art of displaying a tree, and the professionals' village meant visitors could leave with a pot, a tool or a first tree.
